Engineers without Borders (EWB) is a nonprofit humanitarian organization established to support community-driven development programs worldwide through partnerships that design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences that enrich global perspectives and create responsible leaders. We are a branch of EWB-USA whose vision is a world in which the communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs. Today, more than two billion people lack access to the most basic things -- clean drinking water, adequate sanitation, reliable passage to local markets and more. UConn EWB's goal is to solve these problems alongside the rest of EWB-USA.
We will use donations to fund international engineering projects and send our club members on trips to complete project work or attend conferences. One example is sending members to Peru to work on our new project where we will be helping a community there to build a latrine and solar powered water heater. Any additional funds will be used for the general activities of the group.
Our fundraising brings the UConn community together to support a global cause, emphasizing using engineering for a positive change. Our members are able to apply skills they learn in the classroom to real world problems, preparing them for projects that will reflect UConn’s efforts in future innovators and problem solvers. It gives students pride and connection to UConn as they solve sustainable solutions that impact the real lives of communities in need. We foster community, leadership, and teamwork, values that will continue to create a better academic and social environment at UConn.
