The Animal Welfare Enrichment Club is dedicated towards providing undergraduate and graduate students hands-on animal work. Our club is dedicated towards providing and improving upon the enrichment of our campus cattle, sheep and horses. This consists of providing the on-campus animals with toys, scratching posts for grooming, scent enrichment, and music enrichment. Additionally, our club is dedicated towards providing students (of all majors and backgrounds) opportunities to network with veterinary professionals, animal science-based non-profits, and welfare research. Our goals consist of being able to apply these initiatives to additional farms in the New England area.
We also host the University of Connecticut's official Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment team (AWJAC), through the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This year, our competition team will be competing in Texas, using science research to debate on mock animal welfare scenarios. You can check out more information about AWJAC, and its significance in promoting veterinary, research, and animal husbandry education in the link attached! Any additional funds will be used for the general activities of UConn student-led organizations.
