About

UConn Formula SAE is dedicated to developing leaders through a hands-on, innovative experience that goes far beyond traditional classroom learning and internships. As a completely student-run organization, our members design, manufacture, and race high-performance vehicles from the ground up every year. By combining a shared passion for motorsport and engineering with complex project management, students develop the precise cross-functional skills required for a successful professional career.

Our team competes globally in Formula SAE, a premier collegiate engineering competition that challenges students to build open-wheel, formula-style race cars. Teams are judged not only on raw track speed but also on engineering design, financial management, and marketability. While most universities focus on a single platform, UConn is one of only seven programs in the United States that develops both Internal Combustion (IC) and Electric Vehicle (EV) platforms simultaneously under one unified team.

At the most recent national competition, this dual-focus strategy yielded historic results. The IC car placed 4th overall out of 111 teams, capturing 1st place in the high-stakes Endurance event (the highest point-value competition on the track). Meanwhile, the EV car secured 5th overall out of 89 teams, earning five separate top 5 finishes in just its second year of competitive racing. Either achievement alone would mark an exceptional season, but together they are unprecedented. UConn is now the only program in the nation to place in the top five for both categories, officially making the University of Connecticut the #1 two-car team in the country.

Any additional funds will be used for the general activities of the group.
