About

Welcome to the Lambda Law Society! We are a chapter of the National Lambda Legal Society, which is a part of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association. Our focus is on promoting the interests and rights of LGBTQ+ legal professionals and students.

The National Lambda Law Society was founded in 1973 by a group of dedicated volunteer lawyers who aimed to make strides for LGBTQ+ individuals within the American justice system. Since its inception, Lambda Law has presented several significant cases before the Supreme Court, addressing issues such as marriage equality, gender-affirming healthcare, and conversion therapy.

The mission of the UConn Lambda Law Society is to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. We achieve this through engaging academic events, advocacy efforts, and outreach initiatives. Additionally, we strive to create a supportive network for LGBTQ+ students and to represent their interests on campus. Together, we work to combat all forms of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.

One of our passionate projects involves purchasing gender-affirming and size-inclusive clothing for UConn Law's "Husky Closet," which provides business casual and formal clothing to law students free of charge.

In furtherance of our mission, we are seeking to send UConn Lambda students to the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s annual Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair. As the largest LGBTQ+ legal conference in the nation, attracting over 2,000 attendees each year, Lavender Law provides a platform for students to connect directly with LGBTQ+-friendly recruiters from law firms, government agencies, LGBTQ+ rights groups, and corporate legal departments.

There is no singular LGBTQ+ or HIV+ experience in America, which is why UConn Lambda Law is committed to sharing space with and educating others about diverse identities and expressions.

Join us in our mission to create positive change!
