About

Support innovative, inclusive teaching fellowships at UConn

Who We Are

INSOC (Instruction in Sociology, Pedagogy, Curriculum, and Practice) is a new teacher training initiative from the Sociology Department at the University of Connecticut.

Based at UConn Hartford, this interdisciplinary program draws on sociological insight to prepare graduate student instructors to become thoughtful, innovative, and engaged educators. Through INSOC, future faculty develop teaching practices that are inclusive, collaborative, and responsive to today’s diverse learning environments.

What We’re Building

The INSOC Fund supports Teaching Fellowships for UConn graduate students, advancing excellence in college teaching through:

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration across UConn departments, programs, and campuses
  • Partnerships with higher education institutions and community organizations in Greater Hartford
  • Faculty and peer mentoring
  • Hands-on teaching experience
  • Workshops focused on pedagogy, curriculum design, and inclusive teaching practices

This initiative equips graduate students with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom—and beyond.

Why It Matters

Great teaching shapes student success. By investing in the development of graduate student instructors, INSOC strengthens the quality of undergraduate education while fostering inclusive, community-engaged learning environments.

Your Impact

Your gift will:

  • Fund INSOC Teaching Fellowships for graduate students
  • Prepare future educators to be effective, inclusive, and innovative teachers
  • Support mentorship, training, and real-world teaching experiences
  • Expand access to high-quality social science education
  • Strengthen partnerships between UConn and Greater Hartford institutions

Our Goal

Help us reach 40 donors and raise $3,000 during UConn Gives to fund the first INSOC Teaching Fellowship.

Every gift, no matter the size, moves us closer to empowering a graduate student with advanced training in college teaching and strengthening the future of education at UConn Hartford.

Give now and invest in the future of teaching.
